Salary Range: $170,000 - $185,000

We are looking for a skilled Data Scientist with a strong focus on Natural Language Processing (NLP), machine learning, and generative AI to join our Data Insights & Analytics team in Chicago. This position emphasizes working with unstructured textual data (around 85% of the role) and building advanced machine learning models (approximately 15%). The ideal candidate will leverage their expertise to deliver actionable insights and contribute to critical decision-making processes.
Core Responsibilities:
- Develop and Apply NLP & AI Solutions: Identify business opportunities where NLP can add value. Build and fine-tune models for tasks like text classification, sentiment analysis, entity recognition, generative AI, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).
- Evaluate External AI Solutions: Analyze third-party NLP tools and platforms to determine their suitability for the organization, helping to inform build-versus-buy decisions.
- Lead Project Execution: Plan and oversee NLP-focused projects, coordinating with vendors, project managers, and internal stakeholders to ensure high-quality outcomes.
- Communicate Insights Effectively: Translate complex analytical findings into clear and actionable insights, ensuring non-technical audiences understand their implications.
- Stay at the Forefront of Innovation: Keep up with advancements in NLP, machine learning, and Generative AI, proposing new approaches to address organizational challenges.
- Contribute to Strategic Initiatives: Support high-priority projects and provide expertise for ad-hoc tasks as required.
Qualifications:
- Educational Background: A Master’s or Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, or a related field is preferred, though equivalent practical experience will be considered.

Experience:
- A minimum of 3 years in data science, including at least 1 year working with NLP, Large Language Models (LLMs), and Generative AI.
- Hands-on expertise in building and deploying NLP solutions and fine-tuning machine learning models.

Technical Proficiency:
- Strong Python skills.
- Experience with NLP libraries such as spaCy, NLTK, or Snorkel, and familiarity with fine-tuning techniques for AI models.
- Proficiency in working with tools like Databricks, version control systems (e.g., GitHub), and ML tracking platforms (e.g., MLflow, SageMaker).
- SQL knowledge is a bonus.

- Strong communication skills to collaborate with teams and present insights to various stakeholders effectively.
Preferred Experience:
- Hands-on experience with cloud-based AI/ML platforms.
- Expertise in fine-tuning open-source LLM frameworks.
