Actuarial Consultant
Our Client, located in Chicago, is immediately seeking an Actuarial Consultant to assist the finance organization. This is a 6 month contract-to-hire opportunity that will convert to a Manager/Director role. The Actuarial Consultant is accountable for supporting the entire portfolio analysis and execution of strategies across the business. This will include working closely with business partners on profitability analyses, filing indications & selections and providing strategic insight to help facilitate profitable growth. THE ACTUARIAL CONSULTANT RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop indications, base rates needs and loss picks across both our automobile & property products
- Collaborate with the Personal Insurance team on deep dive profitability reviews on various cohorts of the portfolio and recommend corrective action plans
- Partner with Product Leadership on product strategy from ideation through development and launch
- Directs the work streams and has full management responsibility for the performance and development of subordinate actuarial/pricing and analytical staff in accordance with corporate strategic direction.
- Interact closely with business partners to explain technical pricing indications and help derive the tactical execution of their business decisions
- Partner with pricing lead to develop a cohesive approach to approach to strategic pricing from the ground up to establish value-based pricing strategies and guidance based on the collection & interpretation of market positioning, differentiation and value proposition aligned to product & business strategy
- Seek out and leverage best in class pricing tools, methodologies and engage 3rd party partners – where appropriate – to inform Client of pricing strategy and differentiation
- Performs complex actuarial calculations and actuarial studies, and develops rates for existing and/or new business
- Produces highly technical reports and communicates with other analytical staff and management including presentations to senior management
- Stays up to date in functional area of expertise, on industry trends and developments, and assures knowledge transfer within organization.
THE ACTUARIAL CONSULTANT REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Statistics or related disciplines
- A minimum of 7 to 10 years of experience and at least 2 to 4 years of leadership experience
- Associate accreditation (ACAS) required; FCAS accreditation or working towards Fellowship preferred
- Strong general insurance industry knowledge and expertise in actuarial and statistical concepts
- Advanced product specific knowledge with a broad understanding of competitor trends & strategies
- Strong communication skills, the ability to lead and manage multiple projects in concert with often evolving prioritization
- The ability to work & lead their team independently with reasonable oversight
- Strong analytic, critical thinking and problem – solving skills, with the ability to partner to resolve complex issues in a timely manner
- Ability to work and lead with both a sense of urgency but display calmness
- Strong partnership skills with the ability to creatively approach and solve complex problems
- Candidate should have experience in utilizing the required tools (e.g. Excel) and solid knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite
